Abolition of slavery

22 Mai (Bank holiday)

The 22nd of May is memorial day for slave insurrection and 1848 abolition. The drum can be heard, as a symbol of slave revolt. Cultural meetings, commemorative walks, exhibits, tribute to the men who fought for the freedom of Black people… it is time for remembrance. The SERMAC [Service Municipal d’Action Culturelle] memorial is organised in Fort de France on 21 May in the evening to promote culture as a resistance tool and pilar of the Martinican identity. !
